The Milbank High School boys basketball team took part in a team camp at the University of Minnesota Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26. The team ended up 1-5, but three of its losses were within 10 points. “I was pleased with the boys’ effort and concentration on trying to improve our team,” stated Bulldog head coach Matt Bastian. “We played pretty good, but just couldn’t get over the hump. With the temperature in the gyms on Saturday, I would’ve given anything for the boys to get rewarded with a win for their hard work.”
The team enjoyed a tour of the Gophers’ locker room in Williams Arena, also known as The Barn, along with a tour of the players lounge below the arena. The team was introduced to Coach Richard Pitino in the Gophers’ video conference room. “The university was very accommodating,” stated Bastian. “We also had the area to ourselves Saturday night and spent some time in there shooting.”
The team made the camp possible by hosting a chili cook off and SDSU ice cream fundraisers.
Team members attending the camp were Nate Bien, Matt Lenards, Riley Wollschlager, Mitch Quade, Derrick Aho, Jonny Ash, James Weber, Preston Morton, and Caden Bjordahl.
