The Milbank American Legion Post 9 baseball team won the Redfield Wood Bat tournament last weekend. They chalked up three big wins to take home the title.
In the opening game, Milbank defeated Mobridge 5-0. Milbank scored its five runs on nine hits. Tanner Gauer, Jacob Jackson, and Dylan Johnson led the team with two hits each. Brady Krause, Tristan Hall, and Jake Anderson added one apiece. Krause was on the mound for Post 9 and was credited with the win.
In the second game, Milbank rolled to a 10-1 victory over the Watertown Junior Legion. Post 9 scored 10 runs off 12 hits. Gauer sparked the team with three hits and one run. Hall, Anderson, and Dalton Koch followed with two hits each and Krause, Johnson, and Riley Van Sambeek each added one hit. Dominic Boerger went the distance on the mound for Milbank and earned the win.
In the championship match up, Post 9 slugged their way to a 12-11 victory over Redfield. Redfield scored two runs in the opening inning to start the game. They tallied four more in the third and Milbank only posted three. Post 9 then hammered off seven hits in the fourth to take over the lead at 10-7. They added a run in the sixth and one in the seventh for cushion and held on for the victory.
Post 9’s 12 runs came on eight hits. Koch led the team with two hits and two runs. Krause, Jackson, Anderson, Johnson, Brady Gomer, and Boerger added one hit apiece.
Boerger was on the mound for Milbank and earned the win. He was also named the MVP of the tournament.
The Milbank American Legion Post 9 baseball team defeated Webster 11-6 on June 22. Milbank scored 11 runs on nine hits. Krause, Gauer, Jackson, and Nolan Foss led the way for the locals with two hits each and Johnson added one. Boerger earned the pitching win for Post 9.
