The Milbank junior teener baseball team hosted Clear Lake Wednesday, July 6, and split contests with the opponent. Milbank won 8-4 in the opening game before falling 16-11 in the second.
Milbank started off hot in the first game with three runs in the first inning. The locals added one more in the second and put the game out of reach with three in the third.
Brodie Holtquist led Milbank with three hits and two runs. Keaten Benson and Brayden Miller followed with two hits and one run each while Noah Steinlicht had one hit and two runs in the game. Holtquist earned the win on the mound for the locals.
In the second matchup, Milbank suffered a 16-11 loss in the five-inning game. Milbank jumped out to a solid start again with a 4-1 lead after one inning of play. Clear Lake answered with three runs to tie the game at 5-5. The locals continued to plug away and scored one run in the third before the opponent came back to knot the score up again at 7-7 in the fifth. Milbank belted out four runs to overtake the lead but could not hold Clear Lake’s offense who plated nine runs to secure the win.
Holtquist sparked Milbank with two hits and four runs. Steinlicht and Micah Dietmeier added one hit and two runs each. Also added to Milbank’s offense were Matt Christenson, Evan Erickson and Braden Brandriet with one hit apiece. Mason Riley took the pitching loss for Milbank.
