The inaugural Lake Farley Summer Event Series Cornhole tournament was held Saturday, July 16. Mark Dietz and Pat Keating from Graceville, Minnesota came out on top in a field of 28 teams. Dustin Fahleen and Matt Gengler, both of Milbank, took second place.
“We were really excited we had 28 teams,” stated Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce Events Director Laura Kelly. “And we are excited to do this again next year.”
The 28 teams played three games in pool play to start the tournament. The winners of each pool advanced to the championship round. The eight teams that earned a spot in the final round were The Sandbaggers (John and Casey), Team Waddell (Levi and Tayla), Money Bags (Elliot and Dylan), Headquarters Bar (Mark and Pat), Hit the Hole (Dustin and Matt), Here for the Beer (Hayden and Riley), Team Jordan/Austin, and Team Teske (Leonard and Tammy).
The Sandbaggers took on Headquarters Bar in a semi-final game and Hit the Hole and Team Jordan/Austin faced off in the other semi-final match. Headquarters Bar and Hit the Hole then advanced to the championship game. Headquarters Bar was crowned the champion.
Members of Headquarters Bar were Mark Dietz and Pat Keating from Graceville, MN. They earned $100 in Ol’ Mill Bucks and a Cornhole trophy with bragging rights. The second place team Hit the Hole was made up of Dustin Fahleen and Matt Gengler, both of Milbank. They took home $50 in Ol’ Mill Bucks and a trophy.
