_DSC0173The Milbank Firechiefs wrapped up its regular season with a 14-6 record and will begin tournament play this week.

Milbank is the number two seed and is slated to take on the number seven-seed Webster Friday, July 22, at 8 p.m. in Clark in the opening round of the District 1B amateur baseball tournament. The locals will play again Sunday, July 24. The time will be determined upon winning or losing the first game.

Other district games include #8 Sisseton taking on #1 Clark, #5 Clear Lake pitted against #4 Volga and #6 Castlewood Monarchs battling #3 Lake Norden. Five teams will advance to the State B tournament scheduled for August 3-14 in Mitchell.

Milbank secured wins over Aurora and Webster and fell in double header action to the Castlewood Ravens to end the regular season.

Milbank rolled to a 10-1 victory over Aurora Wednesday, July 6, in a road contest. The locals plated four runs in the fourth and eighth innings to secure the win.

Ryan Conrad led Milbank’s offensive attack with four hits and two runs. Lance Frogner belted out three hits including a double and scored three runs while Brady Krause had three hits in the contest. Jesse Krause and Ronnie Krause had two hits apiece, and Jeff Fish, Matt Stephan, Taylor Boerger and Brock Gomer added one hit each.

Frogner pitched a no hitter for the Firechiefs. He struck out 12 batters and allowed just two walks on the night.

The Firechiefs collected an 8-0 win over Webster Sunday, July 10, in its last home game of the season. Milbank scored three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings.

Tony Hofman sparked the locals with three hits and two RBIs. J. Krause and Fish belted out two hits each while Conrad, Frogner, Boerger and Dan Karges added one each.

Boerger went the distance on the mound for Milbank and collected the win. He sat down 16 batters and allowed just six hits and one walk.

Milbank completed its season with two losses to the Castlewood Ravens Wednesday, July 13. Details for that game were not available.
