Milbank High School chorus members, Shawn Stemsrud and Chase Pinkert, were selected to perform in concert with the South Dakota High School Honor Choir Friday, August 5, in Vermillion. The University of South Dakota is the host site for this year’s honor choir week.
Rehearsals and other activities will take place Sunday, July 31, through Friday, August 5. The week will conclude with the formal concert at Aalfs Auditorium Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Randolph Stenson, choral director at St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, Japan, will serve as the guest conductor for the week.
“Acceptance into the prestigious 150-voice ensemble takes place during the school year. All sophomore and junior high school chorus members in South Dakota are invited to audition,” explained MHS choir director Miriam Schwenn. “Results are based on a prepared solo, tonal memory, sight-singing ability, and a written test covering musical terminology. A special thank you goes out to the MHS Music Boosters for providing music scholarship assistance to the 2016 honor choir members.”
