WVRA Teams Pen and Add ’em Up

“It was hot; it was muggy; but the cattle worked nicely,” said Kathy Tyler of the Whetstone Valley Rodeo Association’s fourth team penning event of the season on July 23. Fourteen of the 28 teams penned their cattle in the allotted time. First place money went to Shannon Schuchard, Joanie Hills, and Calvin Thompson. Keith Kelly, David Bury, and Dewey Carlson placed second. Dan Thyne, Kathy Tyler, and Calvin Thompson came in third.

Nineteen teams attempted to put their mathematical skills to work in the Add ‘em Up event. Teams were given a number and required to sort out three cattle whose numbers totaled that number. Kathy Tyler, Keith Mendenhall, and Randy Schuchard placed first with a time of 20.06 seconds. Steven, Dustin, and Joanie Hills took home the second place money with a time of 23.72 seconds.

WVRA’s annual Ranch Rodeo will be Saturday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m. Events will include: sorting, branding, doctoring, a relay race, and trailer loading.
