avera_clinic_sign (1)Avera Medical Group Milbank will host two immunization clinics for those back-to-school students entering sixth grade and college freshmen.

All new students entering college for the first time are required to update their immunizations prior to the start of the school year. A vaccine clinic is scheduled at the Milbank Clinic Tuesday, August 2, and Tuesday, August 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. both days.

“No appointment is needed, but we ask that students call ahead of time and let staff know which day you will attend,” noted clinic manager Patti Swenson. “That way we can review your vaccines ahead of time and be prepared to administer the needed immunizations as quickly as possible.” Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All incoming sixth grade students and any new transfer students to the Milbank School District are required to have additional shots prior to the start of the school year. The South Dakota Department of Health revised its administrative rules and now requires both the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) and MCV4 (Meningococcal ACYW) vaccines for 6th grade students.

Avera Medical Group Milbank staff will be on hand during the Milbank School District registration days to administer those needed immunizations. The hours for the vaccines will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, August 8, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 9.

Students must be accompanied by a parent. “Please bring insurance information along with you for billing purposes,” notes Swenson.
