NNODon’t be alarmed if you see flames at the Fire Hall on August 11. It’s National Night Out and the Milbank Fire Department will be turning up the heat. The traditional burgers and brats hit the grill from 5:30 until 8 p.m at the fire hall in Milbank. Proceeds for the annual fundraiser go to the fire hall. If things start to get too hot, the Milbank Fraternal Order Of Police will be on hand to cool you down with a root beer float.

Demonstrations and activities for the children are also on the menu, “The demonstration this year relates to kitchen fires involving grease and water,” said Fire Chief Kevin Schuelke.” And although children should never play with fire, water is a totally acceptable toy. There will be a water fight for children of all ages.

”The fire department, the Milbank Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Grant-Roberts Ambulance, South Dakota Highway Patrol and local Game, Fish and Parks officers will also showcase emergency vehicles and equipment.

National Night Out is an event to promote community awareness and getting acquainted with neighbors and officers. “The event is a family fun night,” said police chief VanVooren. “Come out and talk with your local emergency personnel.”
