_DSC0071If experience can lead the cross country teams to victory in the 2016 season, the Bulldogs are ready. Five seniors bring both experience and leadership. Caden Bjordahl and Kody Johnson will head the boys team and Karlee Mertens, Brooke Fraasch, and Alexis Oliver will set the pace for the girls team.

Additional returning letterwinners include: Tanner Bock, Elias Magilke, Luke Wold, Shea Hooth, Christina Lusk, Sophia Seffrood, Taylor Thue, Danica Schulte, Jatana Grajczyk, Allison Leddy, and Amaya Street.

Runners looking to join the varsity roster include: juniors Andrew Falk and Allison Pillatzki; sophomores Ben Harstad, Nathan Loutsch, and Jadus Medicine Crow; freshmen Zippy Bock, Landon Brown, Alex Farrell, JD Lusk, and Max McCulloch; eighth grader Isaac Johnson; and seventh graders Nick Batchelor, Jack Sandvig, Maiah Brown, Marion Mischel, Isabelle Nowick, and Savannah Osowski.

Eric Townsend, now in his sixteenth season as head coach, will be assisted by Josh Schmeichel. “My coaching philosophy is to guide young adults to reach their potential. I hope to produce strong motivated individuals that will succeed in a competitive environment,” Townsend said. “I give student-athletes lessons through training and competition and foster self-esteem to assist them in their adult lives. I try to implement this philosophy every day in practice and meets. Although my philosophy has evolved throughout my years as a coach, the core has never changed. I also preach to our runners to remember we want to be our best at the end of the season. Also, each day in practice, and at every meet, the goal is to get a little bit better.”

“Redfield-Doland and Webster will be the teams to watch in the NEC and region, but the Bulldogs will be in the hunt for the conference and region title.” Townsend stated. The boys team will battle for their first NEC and region title since 2011 and will strive to return to the state meet for the first time in three years. The girls team will be working for their first conference and region titles since 2008 and their fifth consecutive trip to the state meet. Both teams placed third in the Northeast Conference meet in 2015.
