Dale Cleo Tollakson was born on May 11, 1951, in Madison, MN, to Gerald and Bertha (Twedt) Tollakson. He was baptized at the First Lutheran Church on July 31, 1951, and confirmed on October 2, 1966 at Faith Lutheran Church. Dale attended school in Madison, graduating from Madison High School with the class of 1969. While in school, Dale was an avid tennis player and he, along with his siblings LaRayne and Donna, were Madison City tennis champions.
Following high school, Dale enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard in May of 1969. He was honorably discharged in August of 1975.
On August 27, 1971, Dale was united in marriage to Dorothy Haugerud in Watson, MN. This union was blessed with 45 years of marriage and three children: Ginger, Misty, and Jeremy.
Dale was employed at Fieldcrest Fertilizer and by the Railroad. He and Dorothy then began managing the A&W in Montevideo, MN, before purchasing the A&W in Big Stone City, SD. After two years it was renamed Double D’s and they owned and operated the fast food drive-in for a total of eleven years. They were fortunate to have made many awesome memories together during this time. Dale liked mowing his lawn and also fixed and repaired lawn mowers in the footsteps of his dad and father-in-law. He enjoyed antiques, selling on Ebay, going to auction sales, and was always looking for a good buy. Most important to Dale was his family and he cherished the time he spent as a husband, dad, and grandpa. Papa Dale was deeply loved and will be missed.
Left to cherish Dale’s memory is his wife, Dorothy Tollakson of Odessa, MN; children: Ginger (Jason) Barse of Ortonville, MN; Misty (Tony) Bongaarts of Chanhassen, MN; and Jeremy (Sara) Tollakson of Ortonville, MN; nine grandchildren: Caleb Tollakson, Dante Torke, Zoe Barse, Sierra Barse, Ashton Tollakson, Tristan Tollakson, Alexis Tollakson, Olivia Tollakson, and Elliott Bongaarts; siblings: Marlene (Stan) Larson of Altoona, WI; Gerald (Barb) Tollakson of Fridley, MN; Allen (LaDonna) Tollakson of Norwood Young America, MN; Carole (Chuck) Fernholz of Madison, MN; LaRayne (Paul) Roisum of Willmar, MN; and Donna (Gordy) Koepp of Clarkfield, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
