_DSC0111 (1)The Lady Bulldogs commanded a 3-0 victory over the Deuel Cardinals Tuesday, August 30. They stand at 2-0 on the season. Milbank Area took control from the start and dominated the match. They secured three set wins of 25-12, 25-9, and 25-12. The team wrapped up the match with 42 kills, 15 aces, 40 assists, 66 digs, and two blocks.

Caryssa Mielitz led the way for Milbank Area with 14 kills on 23-24 hitting, seven aces on 15-17 serving, and 13 digs. Molly Rick followed with seven kills on 11-15 hitting, four aces on 14-14 serving, and 14 digs. Jaecy Engebretson contributed seven kills on 10-13 hitting, one ace on 7-7 serving, six digs and one block and Jaden Hoeke added three kills on 4-7 hitting, three assists, two digs, and one block.

Mikaela Hoeke set up the offense with 24 assists on 33-33 setting, five kills on 9-13 hitting, one ace on 7-7 serving, and 10 digs. Mackayla Schuelke chipped in with 10 assists on 24-26 setting, 3-4 serving, and 11 digs. Madi Schulte went 10-11 serving with two aces, two assists, and one dig.
Rounding out the team totals were Maty Lightfield, 8-8 serving, 5-5 setting with one assist and seven digs; Mady Hilbrands, five kills on 7-9 hitting, and two digs. Katie VanderWal had one kill.

Milbank Area will continue a busy week with a match at Aberdeen Roncalli Thursday, September 1. They then travel to the Sioux Falls Christian tournament Saturday, September 3.

Junior Varsity – The Milbank Area junior varsity team secured a 2-0 win over Deuel with set scores of 25-9 and 25-13. “I was pleased with our passing efforts,” noted JV coach Nancy Paulson. “We had very good serve-receive and were able to set the ball up to all three hitting positions at the net. The setters mixed it up and we kept the Deuel blockers wondering where the next hit would come from.”

Leading the JV team were Mackayla Johnson with seven kills and Katie VanderWal with two. Jaecy Engebretson had two kills, one assist, and two digs. Elisabeth Schwenn had five aces and three assists; Katie Wollschlager, four aces and two digs; Tonya Meyer, two digs; and Maty Lightfield, two aces and two assists.
