Eighth grader, Halli Essington, was the lone winner for the Milbank girls tennis team in its 8-1 loss to Watertown Tuesday, September 6. She downed her opponent 6-4 and 6-0.
“Halli did a very nice job of keeping the ball in play with a high percentage of deeper ground strokes,” noted Bulldog head tennis coach Jim Dahl.
Number one doubles pair, Paige Johnson and Tatiana Stemsrud, battled in a competitive match. The duo took the first set 6-4, then dropped 1-6. “In the 10-point match tie break they had a match point leading 9-8, but it slipped away from them and Watertown took advantage.”
In the junior varsity and middle school matches, Milbank earned its first team win of the season over Watertown 5-4. Alexis Ninneman, at #5 singles, won 6-1 as did Morgan Folk at #6 singles.
