The Bulldog golfers played the Watertown Invitational September 19. Milbank finished with four players under 100 and a solid team score of 375.
“It was a beautiful day with great scoring conditions,” said Milbank Area head golf coach Mark Keeton. “I was happy with our team score with four individuals finishing under 100. I feel our play on and around the green has led to this improvement. The one thing holding us back are those big numbers. If every golfer can eliminate one big number off their card that will make a tremendous difference in the team score.”
Adam Thomas led the Bulldogs with an 86 (45-41) and tied for 15th place overall. Gage Sayler ended the 18-hole round with a 94 (48-46), Conner VanVooren shot a 97 (47-50), and Noah Pillatzki a 98 (45-53). Rounding out the local team were Isaac Nolz at 100 (52-48) and Will Mischel at 108 (51-57).
Austin Hoss of Pierre was the individual medalist with a 70. Sam Batta of Watertown was the runner-up with a 72. Pierre captured the team title with a 306. Aberdeen Central was the runner-up with a 311 and Aberdeen Roncalli took third with a 316.
The remaining team scores were: Harrisburg, 317; Mitchell, 327; Watertown, 329; Huron, 331; Sisseton, 341; Brookings, 345; Sioux Valley, 357; and Watertown JV, 358.
Milbank will compete in the Sisseton Invitational Thursday, September 22, to finish out their regular season. The Bulldogs will battle for top places in the Region 1A tournament Monday, September 26, in Madison.
