The Milbank Bulldog boys golf team wrapped their regular season with a fourth place finish at the Sisseton Invitational Thursday, September 22. The locals finished the day with a 397.
“It was not a fun day for golf,” stated Bulldog head coach Mark Keeton. “There was a constant drizzle all day. Despite that, it is a good experience, as you never know when you will need to play in those conditions.”
Adam Thomas led the way for the Bulldogs with an 18-hole round of 89. He shot a 43 on the front and a 46 on the back which was good enough for ninth place individually.
Noah Pillatzki followed with a 94 (51-43), and Conner VanVooren shot a 97 (51-46) on the day. Rounding out the scores for the Bulldogs were Chase Pinkert, 117 (55-62) and Isaac Nolz, 120 (61-59).
“I was very pleased to have three golfers under 100. Roncalli and Sisseton are both very solid teams 1 through 5.”
Aberdeen Roncalli won the event with a team score of 334. Sisseton took second place with a 352 while Watertown JV was third at 374. Groton Area rounded out the teams with a 399.
Milbank will compete in the Region 1A tournament Monday, September 26, in Madison in hopes of earning a berth to the State Class A golf tournament. Other teams taking part in regions include Aberdeen Roncalli, Dell Rapids, Flandreau Indian School, Groton Area, Madison, McCook Central-Montrose, Sioux Valley, Sisseton and Tri-Valley.
“With regions on Monday, I feel that if the boys can keep it under 100 they have a great chance of making the state tournament.”
The top three teams from each region will advance to the state tournament. The top 55% of the region entries will advance to state in individual play.
The State Class A golf tournament is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, October 3-4, at the Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City.
Members of the Milbank Bulldog boys golf team this season were back row, left to right, Gage Sayler, Isaac Nolz, Chase Pinkert, Keaton Hagen, Kacen Huber, Conner VanVooren and Noah Pillatzki. Front, Adam Thomas and Will Mischel. The team is coached by Mark Keeton.
