Timothy Smart

Timothy Warren Smart, age 73, of Milbank, died Monday, October 10, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank with Pastor Melanie Reiners officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 28, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors.

Timothy Warren Smart was born on July 19, 1943, in Milbank, SD, to Phillip and Evlyn (Kiern) Smart. He attended school in Big Stone City and graduated there in 1961. He then joined the United States Navy and proudly served from 1961-1965. After many years as a draftsman, Tim retired in 2009.

On November 10, 2012, Timothy was united in marriage with Elizabeth Conrad, who was a classmate of his at the Big Stone High School. They met again in the later years of their lives and were happily married. The couple resided in Milbank. Most recently, Timothy was a resident at Golden Living in Milbank.

Timothy attended Parkview United Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors and took pleasure in fishing, playing sports, had a love of bulldogs, and playing slow pitch softball and tennis. He enjoyed spending time with his family and attended many of his grandchildren’s and children’s activities. Tim will lovingly be remembered by his family for his sparkling personality and for telling everyone that, “His day wasn’t complete until he made someone laugh.”

Timothy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Conrad Smart; children: Jonathan (Cassandra) Smart of Edina, MN; Michelle (Chris) Rohlik of Vesta, MN; Rebecca Smart of Eagan, MN; Jason (Stacie Vik) Smart of Iowa City; Beth’s children: Stephanie (Jim) Trevett of Milbank, SD; Julie (Richard) Schwandt of Big Stone City, SD; Paul (Kathy) of Albany, MN; Nadine Conrad of Minneapolis, MN; Teresa (Jarrod) Stoddard of Big Stone City, SD; grandchildren: Madeline Smart, Claire Smart, Anthony Vik, Spencer Rohlik, Jamison Rohlik, Chloe Rohlik; siblings: Joan (Melford) Diers of Casa Grande, AZ; Rowena (Melvin) Diers of Aberdeen, SD; Michael (Cindy) Smart of Mound, MN; and Barb Smart of Ottumwa, IA; sister-in-law, Sally (Ken) Fischer of Big Stone City, SD; and brother-in-law, Rodger (Judy) Bergland of Blaine, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Janice (Van Lith) Smart and Patricia (Folk) Smart; brother, Daniel Smart; and three brothers that died in infancy.
