roger-andersonRoger Anderson, age 82 of Stockholm died October 12, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Watertown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (113 6 Street S) in Milbank. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate and burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stockholm.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Chapel of St. William’s Care Center (100 9 Street S, Milbank, SD). A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Lawrence Catholic Church on Saturday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Music will be provided by the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir and Nancy Johnson, organist.

Honorary bearers will be: Mike Strutz, Scott Strutz, Tom Weeks, Robert Weeks, Jim McGuire, Donnie Ries, and LeRoy Ries. Casket bearers will be: Wayne Fryer, Bruce Fryer, Scott Lewno, Adam Lewno, Ronnie Fryer, and Chris Madsen.

Roger Lawrence Anderson was born April 16, 1934, in Watertown, SD. He was the son of Ernest Gustav and Mary Otillie (Strutz) Anderson. The family lived in Watertown and moved to Appleton, MN in 1940. They moved to South Shore, SD in 1944. Roger graduated from South Shore High School in 1953.

Roger served in the United States Army from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was a 41 year member of the American Legion, Stockholm-Strandburg Post # 171.

Roger was united in marriage with Bertha J. Fryer on August 20, 1959. He worked for Schull Construction in Watertown from 1959-1976. He worked for Dakota Granite Company in Milbank, SD from 1976 until he retired at the age of 62 years.

Roger was a member of the Grant County Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He adored pets, especially dogs. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He loved to take them camping and on vacations. It was a common sight to see his home full of grandchildren (and their pets). He also enjoyed music and computer games.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bertha Anderson of Stockholm, SD; his children: Mark Anderson of Stockholm, SD; Greg Anderson of Stockholm, SD; Stacy (Dave) Janssen of South Shore, SD; four grandchildren: Zachary Janssen, Kaitlin Janssen, Justin Anderson, Carissa Anderson Olson; three great- grandchildren: Alesana Olson, Dayven Olson, Harlan Olson; sister, Joyce (Tom) Clouser of Peoria, AZ;

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Anderson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Viola and Lester Fryer; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Sylvia Fryer.
