community_health_nursesThe Department of Health has stopped providing free flu shots for all children. With the adoption of the Affordable Care Act, federal funds can no longer be used to purchase flu vaccines for children who are not VFC eligible (uninsured, underinsured, Medicaid, or American Indian).

The Grant County Community Health Nurse, Jennifer Meyer, and Avera Medical Group Milbank will hold a flu shot clinic at the Milbank School District parent-teacher conferences Wednesday, October 26. The influenza shots will be administered from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Milbank High School. “Parents must bring insurance and/or Medicaid cards when you come for the shots,” stated Meyer. About one-half of children in South Dakota are VFC eligible.
