donald-schultzDonald “Smiley” Schultz, age 78, of Corona, SD, died on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona with Rev. Caleb Schewe officiating. Burial will follow in Kilborn Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank and will continue on Thursday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.

Urn bearers will be Donald’s grandchildren: Mason Dockter, Shelby Dockter, Katelyn Schultz, Baylee Schultz, Steven Buck, and McKenzie Buck. Honorary bearers include the Corona Fire Department and Donald’s Coffee Pals.

Donald Dean Schultz was born on September 21, 1938, in Ortonville, MN, to Arthur Emil and Erma Marie (Krueger) Schultz. Donald grew up in Corona, graduating from Corona High School with the class of 1956. In 1960 he began working road construction until 1965 when he started his own livestock trucking business, Schultz Trucking. Donald owned and operated Schultz Trucking until 1977 when he went back to school and studied to become an electrician. He worked as an electrician for Goldie’s Electric until his retirement in 2000.

On March 31, 1966, Donald was united in marriage with Betty Lou Morton. This union was blessed with fifty years of marriage and three children.

Donald was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona since 1968. He was a member of the Corona Fire Department since 1967, serving as Fire Chief for 38 years. Donald was also a Community Club member, caretaker of the Community Center, and a board member of the Corona Town Council. Donald was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially enjoyed spending time hunting with his West River family, the Lermeny’s. Most important to Donald was his family and he adored time spent with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty Lou Schultz of Corona, SD; children: Lisa (Dean) Buck of Watertown, SD; Kelly (Robin) Schultz of Corona, SD; Lori (Darin) Dockter of Corona, SD; grandchildren: Mason Dockter, Shelby Dockter, Katelyn Schultz, Baylee Schultz, Steven Buck, and McKenzie Buck; brother, Marland (Beverly) Schultz of Wilmot, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Grant County Cancer Society and the Corona Fire Department.
