The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs shut down the Sisseton Lady Redmen 3-0 on October 18, in Milbank. They improved to 15-6 on the season.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a solid start and held a 19-10 lead late in the first set. Milbank Area secured the win at 25-14.
In the second set, they committed several unforced errors and trailed 14-11 at the midway point. They came back later to even the score at 17-17 with a tip-kill by Mikaela Hoeke and an ace by Caryssa Mielitz. The score teetered again until it evened at 21-21. Three consecutive Redmen errors gave Milbank Area the 24-21 lead. Mielitz closed out the win at 25-22 with a kill.
Sisseton struggled in the third set and the Lady Bulldogs took advantage. Milbank Area soared ahead 12-5 and closed out the set and match at 25-13.
Molly Rick led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills on 23-27 hitting, one ace on 13-13 serving, one assist on 3-3 setting, and six digs. Jaecy Engebretson followed with seven kills on 15-17 hitting, one ace on 6-7 serving, and two digs. M. Hoeke tallied four kills on 8-8 hitting, 22 assists on 69-69 setting, 14-14 serving, and 10 digs. Mielitz added three kills on 18-23 hitting, one ace on 10-10 serving, and 10 digs.
Additional team leaders were: Madi Schulte, who had one ace on 4-4 serving, three assists on 7-7 setting, one kill, and a team-high 11 digs; Mac Schuelke, one ace on 6-7 serving, 7-7 setting and eight digs; LaChasity Finley, three kills on 4-4 hitting and two digs; Maty Lightfield, one ace on 12-13 serving, one assist on 4-4 setting and four digs; Jaden Hoeke, one kill on 9-10 hitting, one assist on 5-5 setting, 1-2 serving, three digs, and one block; and Mady Hilbrands, two digs.
Milbank Area will wrap up its regular season with two home games. The Lady Bulldogs host Britton-Hecla Friday, October 21, and Groton on Monday, October 24.
