senior_volleyball_players_1The Lady Bulldogs downed the Britton-Hecla Braves in another three-set volleyball victory. Milbank Area improved their record to 16-6 with the win.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 15-8 lead in the first set. The Braves pulled to within one point at 22-21 before the locals took advantage of their opponent’s errors. Senior Caryssa Mielitz closed out the first set at 25-22 with a kill.

The Lady Bulldogs started out slower in the second set and trailed 7-5. Milbank Area knotted the score at 7-7 with a tip-kill by Molly Rick and a Braves error. Milbank Area led 20-11 late in the set until Mackayla Schuelke found the sweet spot from the service line to drop in three aces to give the Lady Bulldogs the 25-11 win.

In the third set, the score teetered. Milbank Area took charge at 15-11. Britton-Hecla again pulled within two points at 21-19. Rick dropped in a kill and Schuelke made another ace to widen the gap to 23-19. A Milbank Area error followed by a Braves kill moved the score to 24-21. Mielitz then tipped the ball over the net for a kill and the 25-21 victory.

Mielitz led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 kills on 26-31 hitting, three aces on 10-14 serving, and 15 digs. Rick followed with 11 kills on 19-28 hitting, two aces on 15-15 serving, and eight digs. Jaecy Engebretson tallied six kills on 17-20 hitting, one ace on 5-6 serving, and four digs. Mikaela Hoeke added three kills on 5-8 hitting, two aces on 8-10 serving, 23 assists on 52-52 setting, and nine digs.

Schuelke dropped in five aces on 14-15 serving to pace the Lady Dawgs. She had seven assists on 26-26 setting and three digs. Also contributing to the victory for Milbank Area were: Madi Schulte, one assist on 6-6 setting and six digs; Maty Lightfield, one ace on 10-11 serving and eight digs; Mady Hilbrands, one kill on 8-10 hitting and two digs; Jaden Hoeke, three kills on 8-11 hitting, one assist on 4-4 setting, and two digs; and LaChastity Finley, one kill on 2-2 hitting, three digs, and one block.
