_dsc0050-1If you still need a little help getting into the Christmas spirit, take a stroll through the Grant County Courthouse. Seventeen beautifully decorated Christmas trees are on display. Or visit the courthouse during their open house Tuesday, December 20, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This year, young musicians will provide special Christmas music starting at 3:30 p.m. “We invite you to join the festivities, view the beautiful trees, and share the joy of the season with us,” stated Sara Koepke, Grant County 4-H Youth Program Advisor.

For 25 years, Grant County 4-H clubs have decorated trees for the courthouse. This year, five clubs have trees displayed. They include: Junior Busy Bees, Kountry Kids, Madison Jr. Livestock, Northern Lights and Young Explorers.

The Festival of Trees allows the 4-H clubs and other organizations to come together for a greater cause. Each tree is decorated with a theme and many also include a collection box to gather donated items. Most of the 4-H clubs are collecting head-to-toe items in conjunction with state-wide community service projects. Items they hope to receive include: hats, scarves, mittens, snow pants, socks, and gently-used boots. One club is also collecting personal care items – bottled water, tissues, and hygiene products. All items collected by the 4-H clubs will be donated to Interlakes Community Action Partnership.

Other trees on display were decorated by: Gertje-Van Lith Unit 229 American Legion Auxiliary of Big Stone City, Girl Scouts, Milbank Area Retired Teachers Association, Grant County Community Health, Veterans Service Office, It Only Takes A Spark Cancer Walk, Strandburg American Legion Auxiliary, Milbank Lions Club, Grant County Public Library, Golden Living Center, Milbank Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, and Milbank American Legion Auxiliary.

Trees will remain in the courthouse through Monday, January 2.
