Lucille Delaine Thompson was born on December 27, 1931, in Morris, MN to John and Olga (Zemple) Roeder. Growing up in rural Big Stone County, she completed her education through the eighth grade. Lucille married Clifford Thompson at the Eidskog parsonage on January 21, 1950. Together they raised six children.

Lucille was primarily a homemaker, but she was an active farmwife as well and enjoyed driving tractor and mowing the grass. She was a lifelong member of Eidskog Lutheran Church where she was very involved in Ladies Aid. When that church closed she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Lucille also served on the Big Stone County Fair Board for many years.

Lucille enjoyed cooking and baking and afternoon “snack” was often sloppy joe’s and chocolate cake! She also baked apple pies and angel food cake for friends and family. Playing whist, widow whist, and king’s corner were favorite pastimes. Lucille helped her children with all their 4-H projects. She was very kind and caring and made sure she instilled strong values in her children. It was important for Lucille to be a friend and mother to each and every of her children. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cherishing her memory are her children: Kathy (John) Athey of Hutchinson, MN; Gary (Joan) Thompson of Cassville, MO; Debbie (Terry) Brunder of Deer River, MN; Joanne (Steve) Bissett of Austin, MN; and Carol Meeker of Louisville, KY.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; son, Curtis; sister, Deloris Odden; and brothers: Alfred, John, and Vernon Roeder.
