Milbank Area Falls In Shootout Battle Of The Bulldogs

The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs battled the DeSmet Bulldogs in the second game of the State Farm/S&D One Stop Basketball Shootout Thursday, December 29, at the Milbank Armory. Milbank Area suffered a 55-24 loss moving their season record to 2-3.

The Lady Bulldogs struggled to control the ball and committed 23 turnovers in the contest. The locals worked hard to get the offense rolling, but could not pull it together. They produced just eight points in the first half. Milbank Area trailed 15-4 at the end of the first quarter and 29-8 at the midway mark. DeSmet outscored Milbank Area 26-16 in the second half to secure the 55-24 victory.

LaChasity Finley led Milbank Area with six points. Molly Rick and Sophia Seffrood followed with four points, two rebounds and two steals each. Gabbi Cummins tallied three points and one board, and Taylor Thue had three points and three rebounds. Caryssa Mielitz contributed two points and five rebounds while Mackayla Schuelke had two points, three rebounds and two steals. Karlee Mertens rounded out the team totals with three rebounds.
Milbank Area suffered from cold shooting in the contest. The locals made 26 percent from the field, making just 9 of 35 attempts. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with 23 rebounds, 15 steals and 23 turnovers.

DeSmet went 20-for-43 from the field for 47 percent shooting on the night. The opponent won the game with 26 rebounds, 21 steals, three assists, one blocked shot and 17 turnovers.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday, January 3, when they host the Deuel Cardinals in double header basketball action at the Milbank Armory.
