Seven Milbank High School wrestlers advanced to the placing round of the Floyd Farrand Invitational tournament at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School following the first day of competition Thursday, December 29.

The team is led by Jake Anderson and Eli Fischer who will both compete in the semi-final round Friday, December 30. Tyler Krause, Jose Chen, Cole Dockter, Taran Mogard and Koben Huber remain alive and will battle up the bracket in the wrestlebacks. All seven will earn a top-eight finish in the tournament.

Just two grapplers were eliminated after the first day. Eighth grader Toby Schneck and senior Ben Nelson suffered two losses each to take them out of contention.

Milbank sits near the middle of the pack, in 10th place in the team standings with 57.5 points. Watertown finished on top after the first day with 98 points. Sturgis was second with 94 points and Vermillion, third, with 84.5 points.

The tournament will wrap up Friday evening.
