4-H Shooting Sports begin this month. Shooting sports are open to all area youth between age 8 and 18. Youth do not need to be an active 4-H member to participate. Archery, BB gun, air rifle, and air pistol will be offered.

Archery registration takes place Monday, January 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Valley Archers archery range located at the north end of Main Street. The entrance is on the north side of the Valley Queen Cheese building. Archery bows will be fitted to youth at the time of registration. Practices are Mondays at 6:30 and 8 p.m.

BB gun, air pistol, and air rifle registration will be at the 4-H booth during the Grant County Farm and Home Show from January 13-14. Practices are Mondays and Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Grant County 4-H Grounds exhibit building.

“The Shooting Sports program includes safety education and target shooting,” explained Grant County 4-H Youth Program Advisor Sara Koepke. “Youth have the opportunity to complete match postals to qualify for the State Shoot at Fort Pierre in April.”

A participation fee is required to defer the cost of supplies and facility rentals. Practices continue through April.
