kimg0102Milbank High School sophomore Nathan Loutsch won third place in the annual American Legion District 5 High School Oratorical Scholarship contest on January 8. Nathan is the son of Jeff and Marie Loutsch. He was awarded $50.

Mary Albright, a Sisseton High School senior, was the top finisher and Marisa Smith, a senior from Britton-Hecla High School, took second. Albright was given a $250 prize and Smith was awarded $100. Albright also advances to the state contest as the District 5 representative.

The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program A Constitutional Speech Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States among high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities and rights and privileges of American citizenship.
