jenn_falk_backpack_programThe Milbank Backpack Program is essential to families in Milbank and the surrounding area. It provides weekend meals for children who might otherwise go hungry. In its sixth year, the program provides food for 120 to 140 students each year. The program is run completely by volunteers.

Each week, volunteers pack a sack of non-perishable food items for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The food is intended to last a weekend for each child.

“We need more volunteers for our team to set up the food to be packed,” said program director Jenn Falk. The program also accepts special groups looking for a project or community service hours. Combined Appeal generally packs once a month. Other groups change weekly.

“If your group would like to volunteer with the process before packing, contact Sandy MacMillion at Central United Methodist Church at 605-432-4766,” Falk stated. Falk can be reached at 605-467-3293 and Del Cross at 605-432-5037.
