Norma Damerow, 91, of Graceville, formerly of Johnson, died on January 15, 2017.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Norma Marie Damerow was born on April 16, 1925, to Walter and Louise (Zimmerman) Fuhrman in Leonardsville Township, Traverse County, Minnesota. She was baptized on May 3, 1925, by Rev. M. J. Wehausen and confirmed on May 7, 1939, by Rev. Chris Albrecht. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 18:20 – “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”. Norma attended Martin Luther High School in New Ulm, Minnesota, graduating in 1943. Following graduation she worked at Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, Wisconsin for a short time. She worked as a telephone operator in New Ulm and in Wheaton, Minnesota. Norma was also a substitute teacher in grades 2 – 5 at Trinity Lutheran School in Johnson, Minnesota for four months.

On March 27, 1949, Norma was united in marriage with Harvey Damerow at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson. Rev. Paul Kuske officiated. Harvey and Norma farmed near Johnson. Norma spent much of her time cultivating her flower and vegetable gardens. They enjoyed traveling to Arizona and California to visit their children and her sister, LaVerna, and family. Harvey died on December 23, 2004. In 2005, Norma moved to Eastside Acres Apartments in Chokio. Grace Home became her residence in August of 2016.

Norma was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she greatly enjoyed the friendships she shared through the years. Her hobbies included beading, bird watching, reading, completing jigsaw puzzles, and working ‘circle a word’ puzzles. Norma cherished the time she spent with her family. She had a smile for absolutely everybody and her smile will be deeply missed.

Left with loving memories are her children: Charles (Jean) Damerow of Tuscon, AZ; Roxanne (Pete) Fischer of Wheaton, MN; and Rhonda Damerow (Scott Morgan) of Garfield, MN; grandchildren: Valerie (Josh) Paugh; Becky Cable; Sarah (Nathan) Stockton; Nicole Peck; and Scott Powers; seven great-grandchildren: Zack and Abby Paugh; Rob and Harrison Cable; Rages and Winter Stockton; and Raylee Alstead; sister LaVerna Nelson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband; son, Kenneth, in 2009; brother Allen Fuhrman; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Robert Vogt; and brother-in-law Arvel Nelson.
