The Milbank Area Bulldogs defeated the Britton-Hecla Braves February 10, at home. Senior Nate Bien gave a standout performance. Bien poured in 23 points to propel Milbank Area to a 66-43 victory.

Milbank Area held a 7-1 lead early, but Britton-Hecla came back to take the advantage at 11-9 at the end of the opening quarter. The Bulldogs slipped past the Braves 26-25 at the midway mark.

The Dawgs came out hot and fired in 16 points in the third period while holding Britton-Hecla to just 8 points. They led 42-33 heading into the final stanza. In the fourth quarter Milbank Area scored 24 points to Britton-Hecla’s 10 to wrap up the victory.

“I was pleased how we played offensively,” stated Bulldog Head Coach Matt Bastian. “As we move through the final week of the regular season, it will be key for us to continue to play well on the offensive side of the floor. Our defense really showed up in the second half, which was the key to the game. We talked at halftime that we had to control their dribble penetration and we did that for the most part in the second half.”

In addition to Bien’s 23 points, he grabbed 6 rebounds and had 1 assist. A well-balanced scoring attack also contributed to the Bulldogs’ win. Mitch Quade tallied 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Matt Lenards contributed 6 points and 2 rebounds. Derrick Aho added 6 points and 3 boards. Jake Fox dropped in 6 points, had 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Jonny Ash had 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Cody Dockter added 4 points and 4 rebounds; James Weber, 4 points, 3 boards, and 1 steal; Riley Wollschlager, 3 points and 2 rebounds; and Preston Morton, 2 points and 1 rebound. Jordan Riley snared 2 rebounds.

Milbank Area made 52 percent of their shots from the field – 24 of 46 attempts. The Bulldogs grabbed 40 rebounds, had 6 assists, and made 1 steal. They committed 11 turnovers.

Britton-Hecla went 14-of-49 from the field for 29 percent shooting. The Braves got 24 rebounds, snagged 10 steals, and made 2 assists. They committed only two turnovers.
