Robert Charles Jacobs was born November 20, 1925, in Grant County South Dakota to Charles and Emma Jacobs. Bob’s mother passed away at an early age, and he was raised by his father and his father’s second wife, Ida Jacobs. Bob was born in a farm house north of Milbank. He attended Milbank public school. Because of a childhood injury he was unable to serve in the military, but served his country during World War II by working in the Seattle, Washington shipyards constructing navy ships. He also worked in California at Douglas Aircraft Company.

Following the war, he returned to Milbank and worked various jobs before becoming a motor carrier enforcement officer both in Milbank and other various cities across South Dakota.

In his free time he closely followed the Minnesota Twins and was an avid book and newspaper reader. He was interested in Milbank history and could tell many stories of its development. He was proud of his nieces and nephews and their children and enjoyed their many visits. He was especially grateful of his great niece, Heidi Wellnitz of Milbank, and the St. Williams staff who provided for his care during the past ten years.

Bob is survived by one brother, Jim (and wife Betty Jo) Jacobs of Raleigh, NC; nieces and nephews: Susan (Russ) Moen of Cape Canaveral, FL; Gary (Derya) Jacobs of Pittsburgh, PA; Linda (Bob) Dohrer of Wilmington, NC; John (Kaia) Jacobs of Red Wing, MN; Edward (Sarah) Jacobs of Belleville, IL; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
