James Loehrer

James Ambrose Loehrer, age 76 of Milbank died February 20, 2017, at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 24, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Fr. Gary DeRouchey will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 23 at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. and continue on Friday morning, one hour prior to the Mass at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Casket bearers will be: Cory Street, Jesse Street, Andrew Smith, Dustin Smith, Benjamin Loehrer, and Barrett Loehrer. Honorary bearers will be: John Loehrer, Lawrence Loehrer, Marilyn Kasuske, Bob Loehrer, Kathy Straus, and all his many friends.

James Ambrose Loehrer was born June 16, 1940, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Ambrose and Sara (Linn) Loehrer. James was born and raised in Grant County. He attended the Revillo School. He farmed on the family farm and married Karen Dolen on October 29, 1960 at St Lawrence Catholic Church. They had 6 children with this marriage. James continued to farm until his retirement. After he retired he continued part time at Bill’s Super Valu.

James Loehrer is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters; Debra Street of Madison, MN, and Sandy (Brian) Smith of Milbank, SD; three sons: Tim Loehrer (Margaret Lindberg) Loehrer of Milbank, SD; Tony Loehrer of Milbank, SD; and David (Lisa Athey) Loehrer of Milbank SD; sisters: Marilyn (Ronnie) Kasuske of Watertown, SD; and Kathy (Louie) Straus of Elk River, MN; brothers: John (Judy) Loehrer of Milbank, SD; Lawrence (Karen) Loehrer of Revillo, SD; and Bob Loehrer of Watertown, SD: 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ambrose and Sara Loehrer; son, Joe Loehrer, and infant brother, Joey Loehrer.
