Milbank Area Falls in Battle of the Bulldogs

The Milbank Area Bulldogs hosted the Madison Bulldogs basketball team February 20, at the Milbank Armory. Milbank Area was defeated 80-51.
Milbank Area stuck close to Madison during the first quarter and ended the period 19-15. Madison began to pull away in the second quarter and, although Milbank Area played solidly, they remained behind 41-32 at the half. Madison extended its lead to 63-45 at the end of the third. Milbank Area scored just six points in the final quarter and fell 80-51.
“I thought we played well throughout the game,” stated Milbank Area Head Coach Matt Bastian. “The one thing that was really a positive was our start. We have struggled in other games getting out to a good start, so it was nice to see that against such a tough opponent.”
Jonny Ash led Milbank Area with 19 points, 1 rebound, and 2 steals. Matt Lenards followed with 11 points and 1 rebound. Nate Bien tallied 9 points and 4 rebounds. Cody Dockter added 6 points and 3 boards.
Also scoring for Milbank Area were: Mitch Quade, 2 points and 2 rebounds; Derrick Aho, 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal; James Weber, 2 points and 1 rebound; and Riley Wollschlager 1 steal.
Milbank Area made 44 percent of its shots from the field – 21 of 48 attempts. They ended the game with 19 rebounds and 6 steals. They committed 12 turnovers.
Madison went 32-of-49 from the field for 65 percent shooting. They won the game with 31 rebounds, 12 steals, and 1 assist. They committed six turnovers.
