Elsie Marie (Bohlen) was born on December 31, 1924, in Estelline, SD. She was the daughter of George and Doris (Harms) Bohlen. She grew up in Roberts County and attended rural school through the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a faithful and active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the ladies’ aid. On September 11, 1942, Elsie was united in marriage with Daniel Roy Hanson Sr. in Madison, Minnesota. To this union six children were born.

Elsie was a talented quilter and made many, many quilts over the years. She enjoyed sewing. She loved her gardens, both flower and vegetable. She proudly canned her harvest. She was a fantastic cook and baked buns until she was 88! She enjoyed playing cards and was a service volunteer. She was a proud member of the Kitchen Band. Most important to Elsie was her family. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She had a gentle and kind spirit that will be cherished.

Elsie and Dan were fond of traveling and spent memorable trips to Branson, Nashville, Yellow Stone, Canada, Ohio, and Devil’s Tower.

Elsie shared her dearest memory of her husband, Danny coming home from his military service, after 3 ½ years apart.

Cherishing Elsie’s memory are her children: Darlene (Jim) Mertens of Milbank, SD; Delton (Karen) Hanson of Wilmot, SD; Dianne (Tom) Stoick of Milbank, SD; Delvin (Nancy) Hanson of Wilmot, SD; Daniel (Joyce) Hanson, Jr. of Wilmot, SD; David (Ronda) Hanson of Corona, SD; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Evelyn Aden of Milbank, SD; Luella DeGreef of Wilmot, SD; and Alvin (Marge) Bohlen of Brookings, SD.
