The Concordia Chapel Choir from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota will perform in Ortonville on March 16. Ortonville is the choir’s second stop on its annual regional tour. The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church at 9 NW 3rd Street. The concert is free and everyone is invited. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Dezmond Ward, son of James and Kathy Ward of Milbank, is a member of the choir. During high school, Dezmond, a bass, sang in the choir directed by Miriam Schwenn. Schwenn received her degree from Concordia and Dezmond says he remembers her speaking affectionately of her time in Concordia’s choral program. “Now I sing in the same choir Mrs. Schwenn performed with while she was at Concordia,” he says.

“I enjoy the choral tradition at Concordia and making music with a community of singers I am lucky enough to call friends,” Dezmond says. “I look forward to bringing the choral experience of Concordia College to the Milbank-Ortonville area!”

The Concordia Chapel Choir is a blend of more than 90 voices under the direction of Dr. Michael Culloton – a 1998 graduate of Concordia. Choir members range from first-year students to seniors. Originally created to enrich the music of Concordia’s morning chapel services, the choir now performs in concert, tours, and occasionally at chapel services. In April 2017, along with other Concordia choral ensembles and its orchestra, they will premiere Dr. René Clausen’s new oratorio-length composition, The Passion of Jesus Christ, in Minneapolis and Moorhead.
