Delores Gerdes

Delores Gerdes, age 95 of Wilmot, South Dakota, died April 4, 2017 at the Wilmot Care Center.

Services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wilmot, SD.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Caleb Schewe will be officiating.

Burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery. Casket bearers will be: Wayne Gerdes, Wanda Gerdes, Chris Gerdes, and Jeremy Gerdes.

Delores Marie (Johnson) Gerdes was born September 14, 1921, in Wist, SD. She was the daughter of John E. and Helga (Stenseng) Johnson.

Delores attended Wilmot High School where she graduated in 1939. After her graduation, she worked at Red Owl Grocery Store and Fairway Grocery Store. She was married to Leonard Gerdes October 30, 1940. From this union they were blessed with two sons, Michael and Wayne.

Delores and Leonard moved to Red Wing, MN in 1965, and then to Ortonville, MN in 1978. They resided at Friendship Circle in Milbank prior to moving to the Wilmot Care Center.

Delores was a sweet loving person who was loved by the many people she knew. She liked to fish in her early years, dance, play cards, dice games, and enjoyed doing crafts. Delores greatly enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family and friends.

Cherishing her memory are her sons: Michael (Diane) Gerdes of Tempe, AZ; and Wayne (Wanda) of Red Wing, MN; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Ammann of Wilmot, SD.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents: John and Helga; three brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
