Ash and Thue Named Arlen Conrad Memorial MVPs

Milbank High School tracksters Jonny Ash and Taylor Thue received the First Annual Arlen Conrad Memorial MVP Award at the conclusion of the South Dakota National Guard track and field meet in Milbank on April 11. Ash won first place finishes in the boys triple jump and 1,600-meter sprint medley relay. He also took second place in the long jump and 1,600-meter relay. Thue, Conrad’s granddaughter, was a quadruple winner. She finished at the top of the field in the girls 100 and 300-meter hurdles. She achieved state qualifying time in both events. Thue was also was a member of the winning 400 and 1,600-meter relay teams.
Arlen Conrad was a 1964 graduate of MHS. He was a member of the MHS track team and his 1,600-meter relay team still holds the school record set in 1964. Conrad was also a member of the 740th Transportation Company of the South Dakota National Guard and served as Company Commander from April 1981 until October 1984. He retired as Captain in November 1985. Conrad passed away in August and his family and the 740th Transportation Company seek to honor his memory with the MVP awards. The awards were presented by Conrad’s granddaughter, Abigail Snaza, who is a member of the 740th.
Among the other winners at the meet was Molly Rick. She secured a first place finish in the girls triple jump. Members of the girls winning 400- meter relay team were Tracy Pillatzki, Elisabeth Schwenn, and Mackayla Schuelke. Team members on the top 1,600-meter relay team were Elisabeth Schwenn, Madi Thue, and Jatana Grajczyk. The girls 3,200-meter relay team of Gabbi Cummins, Madi Thue, Jatana Grajczyk, and Danica Schulte also earned a top spot.
Matt Lenards captured a first place finish in the boys 100-meter dash. Derrick Aho topped the field in the 200-meter dash. Kody Johnson won the boys 1,600-meter run. Nate Bien earned first in the 110-meter hurdles. Caden Wollschlager earned first place in the boys discus.
The boys 400, 1,600, and medley relay teams each finished first in the meet. Members of the 400-meter team were Riley Gauer, Jake Anderson, Derrick Aho, and Cole Dockter. Winning the 1,600-meter relay were Caden Bjordahl, Nate Bien, Nick Batchelor, and Cole Dockter. Members of the winning medley relay were Ash, Kacen Huber, Alec Bien, and Luke Wold.
