The Milbank Bulldog boys tennis team battled Benson, Minnesota on April 17, in Benson. The Dawgs were defeated 5-2.
“It was a good matchup for our squad,” said Coach Jim Dahl. “There were several competitive sets.”
The number two doubles pair of Jose Chen and Caden Ebsen and the number three pair of Joe Harstad and Angel Chen came away with wins in straight sets. Moritz Wortmann, at the number two singles position, made a strong showing by splitting the first two very close sets. “Moritz went into a third full set to decide his match,” Dahl explained. “It was a two hour and 20 minute match that went down to the very end with many deuce points.”
Marcos Basilio had a close second set tie break loss despite falling in straight sets at number three singles. The number one duo of Nathan Loutsch and Keaton Hagen played a strong first set only to fall 5-7. “It was one of those matches where we could not get the key points to turn the team match to our favor,” said Dahl.
The Bulldogs travel to Sioux Falls Thursday to take on Sioux Falls Lincoln and Brandon Valley. They finish out the week in Lac Qui Parle Valley, Minnesota on Friday, April 21.
