Roger Ronald Anderson was born July 10, 1940, in Ortonville, MN. He was the son of Nels Christian and Josephine Ella (Bittner) Anderson. Roger attended school in Ortonville and graduated with the Class of 1959. Roger served in the United States Navy, enlisting on October 16, 1959, and was honorably discharged on October 9, 1963. Roger returned to Ortonville and was united in marriage with Verona Mary Merritt on October 26, 1963, at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children: Dean and Denise.

Roger was the Public Works Director for the city of Ortonville for 37 years. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Ortonville Fire Department. He also was a Mason.

Roger “Rog” was a loving husband and father. He was a patient, kind man who was willing to listen to and help anyone. Rog loved family gatherings, cooking/baking for all, and patio time (especially around a fire). He loved woodworking and was always ready to build anything that was brought his way or was added to his “honey do list”. Rog’s nickname throughout his younger years was handy Andy and it showed as he could fix anything. Rog was the go to person for family and friends when it came to mechanical problems/maintenance on anything or woodworking. His response to anything that was brought his way was “that’s not a problem”. Rog will be greatly missed but we will always cherish the wonderful times and loving memories we have of him. We love you!

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Verona, of Ortonville, MN; his children: Dean Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, and Denise (Bob) Cloos of Jordan, MN; sisters: Delores (Lyle) Smith of Madison, MN; Shirley Peterson of Baxter, MN; and Mayme Melshiemer of Lacrosse, WI: brother-in-law, John (Jean) Merritt of Ortonville, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Christina Pipp; and father and mother in law, Archie and Minnie Merritt.
