St. Lawrence School in Milbank will present their spring program, “Songs of Prayer and Praise,” on Wednesday, May 10, with two shows at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
Director Elizabeth Schulte explained, “Prayer has been a theme in our music class this year. The first song I taught my classes was “First You Pray.” Whenever a problem comes your way, whenever you don’t know what to do, PRAY! That song was for me, just as much as for the students. I quite literally did not know what I was going to do, arriving in Milbank two weeks into the school year and never having taught vocal music.”
“I remember my first day, going to school with a fever, sinus infection, and our house covered in moving boxes. I started class with prayer, because I could, and because I needed it. One student suggested we have a different prayer song every month, and that is how prayer became a theme for our year.”
Other songs reflect different reasons for prayer in our lives and include: “Dona Nobis Pacem” (a prayer for peace), “Brighten My Soul with Sunshine” (a prayer for help), “Riversong” (a prayer for guidance), and “Ten Thousand Reasons” which reminds us of God’s character and faithfulness as we start and end our days.
