The Milbank Fire Department was called to a barn fire at the Paul Dummann farm at 45745 149th Street, Summit, Wednesday, May 3, at 7:20 p.m. According to Fire Chief Kevin Schuelke, the barn and its contents were destroyed. Equipment in the barn included a combine, a restored B John Deere tractor, and a windrower. Milbank, South Shore, and Marvin departments provided aid to the Summit Fire Department.

Firemen were also called to a series of small fires along the railroad tracks on Highway 12 between Milbank and Big Stone City on Friday, May 5. The initial call came in at 12:25 p.m. Schuelke said controlled burns were being conducted in the area, and the small fires were quickly extinguished. The deadline for completing controlled burns is Monday, May 15.
