The Milbank Middle School choirs and bands wrapped up the 2016-2017 musical season with their spring concert Thursday, May 11, in the high school theatre.
The sixth grade choir started the show with three selections. They included “Dodi Li”, “Best Day of My Life” and “You Raise Me Up.” A vocal group of Harley Davis, Mallory Falk, Madi May, Cadence Pillatzki and Maddie Tesch was featured in the opening act. Fifth grade students Joe and Rachel Schulte dazzled the crowd on the violin while their mother, Liz, accompanied the choir on the piano during the final song.
The seventh grade choir presented three selections including “Um-Skit-a-Rat-Trap-si-si-do”, “Bashana Haba-a” and “I Can Feel the Rhythm.” The eighth grade choir also sang three numbers which included “Stand By Me”, “Where Go the Boats?” and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel.”
The 2016-2017 Festival singers wrapped up the choir portion of the concert. The select group presented four numbers including “Alleluia Madrigal,” “Swing Down, Ezekiel,” “Cangoma” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
The sixth grade band played four different numbers including “Ancient Hunters,” “All Through the Night,” “Cape Spear March,” and “Louie, Louie.”
The combined seventh and eighth grade band wrapped up the evening with “Procession of the Sardar,” “Highlights from Harry Potter,” and “American Spirit Overture.”
Various Musicians of the Month were highlights in the concert program. Named to the honor for the middle school band department were sixth grade students Gauge Stengel (February), Ximena Lozano (March) and Luis Berrones (April); seventh grade students Natalie Meyer (February), Shaylee Pekelder (March), and Taryn Dusky (April), and eighth grade students Mackenzie Michels (February), Jessica Van Peursem (March), and Drake Rogers (April).
Musicians of the Month for the middle school choirs were sixth grade students Hallie Schulte (February), Luis Berrones (March), and Jenna Dexter (April); seventh graders Maddox Hanson (February), Marion Mischel (March), and Savannah Stengel (April), and eighth grade students Eric Van Sambeek (February), Peyten Wiese (March), and Lars Andersen (April).
