Milbank 0, Aberdeen Roncalli 9

The Bulldogs battled the Aberdeen Roncalli Cavaliers Monday, May 8, and fell 9-0 at Cantine Courts. “Roncalli has some very solid players that do an excellent job of keeping their strokes deep into the court and waiting for opponents to miss-hit and give them a short ball or floater that they take advantage of,” explained Milbank head coach Jim Dahl. “We had a lot of really nice rallies in many situations, but could not sustain that throughout the match as well as they did.”

David Basilio avenged an earlier loss by winning in straight sets at his number three singles position. “David really does a nice job of keeping his strokes deep in his opponent’s court and maintaining consistency,” Dahl mentioned. “Connor VanVooren, Marcos Basilio and Moritz Wortmann also did well to extend many points with more consistent play in singles.”

Milbank 4, Madison 5
Milbank traveled to Madison Saturday, May 13, for a triangular. Milbank fell by the narrow margin of 5-4 to Madison and 9-0 to St. Thomas More in their final regular season matches.
VanVooren was the double winner on the day in the Madison match. He teamed up with Ebsen at number one doubles to secure a 10-1 victory. “With the number one’s winning, we needed one of the last two doubles to get a team win,” explained Dahl. “They were very hard fought battles, but to Madison’s credit, they closed those out to take the team win.”
Dahl went on to say that St. Thomas More has a solid team. “I was pleased with how our guys fought to keep the ball in play,” he commented. “It seemed like when we were really playing well and hitting shots that would normally close out points for us, they would make amazing gets and keep the points going. They would regain control and outlast us.”
