The Milbank High School boys track team secured its second consecutive Northeast Conference title by scoring 146 points on May 12, in Clark. “When a team takes home the NEC championship, that is quite an accomplishment,” said Bulldog Head Coach Eric Townsend. The girls team finished third. Aberdeen Roncalli secured the NEC title and Groton Area came in second.

The Bulldog teams had 22 boys and 14 girls mark season best times. “I am very proud of both teams and how they competed and gave maximum effort,” said Townsend. “We talk all season about wanting to have our best times at the last meets of the season, and we are seeing that.”

Cole Dockter ran a state-qualifying time of :51.79 in the 400-meter dash which landed him eighth on the varsity honor roll for Milbank. Nick Batchelor topped his seventh-grade 1,600-meter school record with a time of 4:58.82. The boys 400-meter relay team of Matt Lenards, Jake Anderson, Derrick Aho, and Cole Dockter lowered their state-qualifying time to :44.17 and broke the Northeast Conference meet record. Their time moved them into fourth place on the Milbank honor roll.

Danica Schulte also entered the girls honor roll in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.07, ranking her seventh in school history. She captured the individual NEC title in that event.

Milbank will host the Region 1A track meet Thursday, May 18, at AB Campbell Stadium. In addition to those athletes who have already qualified for the state Class A track and field meet, the top two place winners in each event during the region meet also advance to State.
