Sharlyn Pekelder

Sharlyn (Mrs. Robert) Pekelder, age 71 of Stockholm who died peacefully on May 16, 2017, surrounded by her family at her residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg. Rev. Elmer Brinkman will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Stockholm.

Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home, Milbank on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers will be: Mark Pistorius, David Pistorius, Kevin Pistorius, Lynn Pistorius, Steve Plant, Jamie Pekelder, Merlin Fields, Rodney Larson, and Todd Pekelder.

Sharlyn was born September 7, 1945, at Sisseton, SD. She was the daughter of John and Elsie (Kuehl) Pistorius. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Windom, SD.

Sharlyn attended rural school through the eighth grade. She graduated from Browns Valley High School with the Class of 1963. Sharlyn received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary teaching from University of Minnesota/Morris in 1967. She taught in Ortonville, MN and later in South Shore, SD.

Sharlyn was united in marriage with Robert Pekelder in 1970, in Browns Valley. Together they lived and farmed near Stockholm for 47 years.

Sharlyn was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church. She was an active member of WELCA, church council, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed baking and collecting cookbooks. Time spent with her grandchildren was cherished.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert; children: Kris (Anna) and Nathaniel Pekelder, and Ryan (Amy) Alex, Myles, Lily, and Devin Pekelder; siblings: Alvin (Lorna) Pistorius and Elaine (Bill) Edwards; sister in laws: Sharon Pistorius, Arlene (Robert) Fields, and Alice Larson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John; brothers: Donald and Laurel; infant sister, Arlene; two brothers-in-law: Harvey Pekelder and Gerald Plant; and one sister-in-law, Janet Pistorius.
