Karen Jaquet, age 65, of South Shore died May 18, 2017, at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown, SD.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Shore. Rev. Ken Nelson will officiate and burial will be at the South Shore Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home, Milbank on Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers will be: Matt Baumgarn, Casey Baumgarn, Steve Wiener, Dave Helmbrecht, Austin Shjerve, and Michaela Ausland–Peters.

Honorary Bearers are all of Karen’s grandchildren and her fellow workers at Avera.

Karen was born February 11, 1952, in Webster, SD. She was the daughter of Earl and Verna (Schoenbeck) Baumgarn.

She grew up in Webster and graduated from the Webster High School. After graduation, she worked at the Webster Hospital with her Mom for many years. She then worked in the Bowdle and Flandreau Clinics.

Karen made the move to South Shore after marrying Wayne Jaquet on October 8, 1994. She was employed by Stockholm Refrigeration for five years.

In 2000, Karen went back to hospital work. She was employed at the Milbank Hospital where she was the Admissions Officer. Karen continued to work in Milbank until her passing.

Karen was a member of SD State and National Bowling Association with her highest score being 297. She loved fishing, bowling, reading (especially mystery), gardening and tending to her flower beds and gardens. She enjoyed spending time with family, playing with her grandchildren, and pontoon rides with Wayne. Karen liked to cross stitch and go to the casino to play penny slots. She thoroughly enjoyed watching Wayne race.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wayne; children: Brian (Melissa) Ausland of Oak Grove, MN, Tamara (John) Peters of Sioux Falls, SD, Heidi (David) Shjerve of Fergus Falls, MN, and Matthew (Megan) Jaquet of Volga, SD; siblings: Norman (Peggy) Baumgarn of Grand Forks, ND, Janet Coyne of Webster, SD, Earl (Karen) Baumgarn of Watertown, SD, Larry (Kristie) Baumgarn of Webster, SD, Keith (Cathy) Baumgarn of San Clemente, CA, and Louise Baumgarn of Webster, SD; 11 grandchildren: Brady, Connor and Hailey Ausland, Matilynn, William and Brecken Jaquet, Michaela Ausland-Peters, Jayden Ausland, and Austin, Madison and Colton Shjerve; Marilyn Baumgarn of Montevideo, MN; also her dear friends: Carol Thomas, Patty Weiner, Heather Folk, Linda Haupt, Steph Lesnar and Peggy Birney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Terry Baumgarn.
