The 21st Annual Bishop’s Fishing Tournament was held at Big Stone Lake on June 5. The event supports the funding of seminarian education in the Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese.

Winning top place for the most total weight was the team of Jon Beebe, Jesse Hopper, and Charlie Mack. They caught 11.64 pounds. Second place went to Dan Hawkons, Brad Hanson, Stacey Homan, and Tom Stoick with 10.72 pounds. Third place belonged to Heather Holtquist, Brodie Holtquist, David Street, and Jack Street with 10.58 pounds.

Brodie Holtquist caught the largest walleye in the youth division with a 2.22 pound catch. Tom Oakes reeled in the biggest walleye in the adult category with a 3.87 pound fish. B. Holtquist also caught the largest other type of fish with a 8.07 pound Northern.

The event concluded with Mass celebrated by Bishop Paul Swain, social time, and an outdoor prime rib dinner. There are 31 seminarians studying for the priesthood with the Sioux Falls Diocese this year. A seminarian’s education averages $37,500 per year.
