The Milbank Firechiefs amateur baseball team split contests with two teams from Castlewood. The locals fell to the Castlewood Ravens 17-3 Sunday, June 4, before cruising over the Castlewood Monarchs, 19-4, Wednesday, June 7.
Milbank hosted the Ravens on June 4 at Legion Field. The locals got out to a quick start with two runs in the opening inning. Castlewood came back with a big third inning and scored six runs to overtake the lead at 6-2.
Both teams found home plate in the fourth inning. Milbank added one run, but Castlewood widened its gap to 8-3. The Chiefs then went on a cold streak and were unable to get its bats rolling. The Ravens added four more runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to close out the victory.
Milbank scored its three runs on nine hits and committed just one error. Jesse Krause and Tristan Hall led the Firechiefs with two hits each. J. Krause also scored one run and had one RBI.Tony Hofman and Brady Krause belted out one hit each and scored one run for the Chiefs. Hofman’s hit was a double and he contributed one RBI, and Krause had one walk. Also adding to the totals for Milbank were Ryan Conrad, Lance Frogner and Jacob Jackson with one hit apiece.
Taylor Boerger started on the mound for the locals and suffered the loss. He struck out 10 batters and allowed 8 hits, 12 runs and four walks. Hall came in on relief to finish the game. He sat down one batter and gave up six hits, five runs and four walks.
Milbank traveled to Castlewood to take on the Monards June 7, and dominated to a 19-4 victory.
Castlewood started the game with one run in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Milbank came back with six runs in the third and 10 runs in the fifth to take the 16-4 advantage. The locals added three more runs in the sixth to cut the game short with the 19-4 win.
Hall had a big game for Milbank. He led the team with four hits, three runs, three stolen bases and 2 RBIs. J. Krause followed with two hits, three runs, a walk and an RBI. Hofman belted out a home run and a double for two hits, two runs, two walks and four RBIs, and B. Krause punched out a homer and a double for two hits, two runs and four RBIs.
Lance Frogner contributed two hits, two runs, a walk and and an RBI; Jackson had two hits, two runs, one stolen base and an RBI; Boerger tallied two hits, one run, one stolen base and three RBIs; Conrad scored three runs with one hit, two walks and a stolen base, and Brock Gomer had one run and one walk for the locals.
B. Krause earned the pitching win for Milbank by striking out seven batters. He allowed five hits, four runs and four walks in the contest.
Milbank will host Aurora Sunday, June 18, at Legion Field with a start time of 7 p.m.
