Julia Vaage, age 98, of Ortonville died on June 19, 2017, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa. Rev. Thaine Kister will officiate and burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Odessa. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Julia Ethel Vaage was born on March 14, 1919, in Yellow Medicine County, near Canby, MN. She was the daughter of Humphry and Lucinda (Squires) Paulson.
Julia grew up and attended school in Gary, SD. She was baptized on July 4, 1919, and confirmed on July 8, 1934, at First Lutheran Church in Gary. She was united in marriage with Palmer Pederson on August 26, 1937. They were blessed with four children: Marylin, Phyllis, Larry, and Timothy. Palmer passed away on April 1, 1975.
Julia was united in marriage with Orvin Vaage on April 10, 1981. They were married for many years until Orvin’s death on October 2, 2010.
Julia worked at the Armor Packing Plant in South St. Paul for 19 years, retiring at the age of 50. Her strong faith, positive attitude and her love for her family will be remembered. She never complained and always took care of others. She was a great cook and baker, and also enjoyed fishing.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Pederson of Ortonville, MN; sons: Larry (Rose) Pederson and Timothy (Pam) Pederson, both of Odessa, MN; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orvin Vaage; daughter, Marylin Brown; siblings: Alice, Eleanor, Irene, and Humphrey; and her first husband, Palmer Pederson.
