Milbank High School graduate and tennis standout, Zach Waletich, will lead a youth tennis camp in Milbank at Cantine Courts.

The camp is being organized through Courts Plus Community Fitness center in Fargo, ND, with tennis director and Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) head coach Oliver Summers. He will be assisted by Courts Plus Director of Junior Development, Jason Thiner in addition to Waletich.

The camp is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, with two sessions offered. Kindergarten through fifth grade athletes will attend from 9 a.m. to noon. “The goal of this age group is to emphasize fun and develop ball judgment skills, motor skills and to learn the early stroke mechanics of a forehand,” said Waletich. “We will teach this through instruction, drills and fun games. We would like to have any kid that likes to have fun, be active and learn the game of tennis to become part of this camp.”

Athletes in grades six through 12 will attend camp from 1 to 4 p.m. “The goal of this group is to continue to have fun while focusing more on stroke mechanics, footwork and singles/doubles strategy,” Waletich added. “We have a variety of fun drills/games planned, so you will want to come have fun and experience it.”

Both groups are free to everyone as MACTA is sponsoring this camp. There will be music played throughout the day and free pizza and drinks afterwards.

Waletich is a 2012 MHS graduate. He is currently completing his health and physical education/developmentally adapted physical education degree at Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. He will graduate in December of 2018. He also is employed at Courts Plus as a tennis and youth program instructor where he teaches youth racquetball, basketball and homeschool physical education classes. This summer, he is also selling fireworks for Black Powder Fireworks.
